Celebrate the holidays, jazz-style. Healdsburg Jazz presents its annual holiday concert featuring Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s “Harlem Nutcracker Suite”, performed by the renowned Marcus Shelby Orchestra. This swinging reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s beloved “Nutcracker” infuses the familiar melodies with blues, big-band brass, and the soulful rhythm of Harlem in the 1920s.
Back by popular demand after last year’s sold-out debut in Healdsburg, Marcus Shelby and his 15-piece orchestra bring the suite to life across nine dazzling movements — each showcasing the tonal power, improvisation, and storytelling that make this arrangement a masterpiece. As Marcus says, “You recognize the themes you love from Tchaikovsky… but then a saxophone or drumline shifts the mood and you’re like — wow.”
The evening continues with a second set featuring celebrated Bay Area vocalist Tiffany Austin, performing holiday standards, spirituals, and global carols, accompanied by poetry, visual projections, and a few festive surprises.
Guests are encouraged to bring a new book or toy for the annual Healdsburg Jazz holiday toy drive.
