Inspired by time spent in the landscapes of the American West and along the coast of Mexico, MEAGEN SVENDSEN’s newest works explore transformation in the natural world.
Hummingbirds take flight with leaves in place of wings, bringing together the familiar and the imagined as botanical forms move between earthbound and airborne.
In collaboration with master woodworker Christopher Nelson, Svendsen pairs delicate porcelain with sculptural redwood, reimagining familiar elements. Leaf becomes wing, fungus becomes sculpted form, wood becomes landscape, and boundaries between species, places, and materials begin to dissolve. Meagan will also be the Artist-In-Residence at Appellation Hotel in Healdsburg for the month of September.
