Rena Charles and Debra Owen’s showcase, Of Branch and Body, presents an evocative dialogue between two distinct interpretations of form: vibrant, whimsical stylized trees on wood panels and traditional bronze sculptures of the human figure. Together, these works explore the idea of portraiture beyond conventional boundaries, inviting viewers to reflect on the inherent connections between nature and human presence.
By juxtaposing tree portraits and human figures, Of Branch and Body invites viewers to consider how identity is revealed in different forms. The tree’s rootedness in the earth and the human form’s rootedness in experience. The works ask us to imagine how trees might reflect human emotions, aspirations, or states of being and how the human body, much like the tree, serves as a vessel of expression. The showcase is on view February 15th – March 15th.
