Above Ground by Dr. Orin Carpenter challenges the narratives of later life, shifting the focus from decline to presence, resilience, and vitality. For the artist, being “above ground” is both a daily practice of gratitude and an act of creative resistance, a reminder that survival is sacred and that joy itself is an act of rebellion.
Through layered, mixed media abstractions, Carpenter weaves life’s rhythms, patterns, and textures into his paintings. Each work tells a story that is both personal and universal, inviting reflection on our own experiences and emotions. These abstract compositions serve as a visual meditation on legacy, memory, and perspective, offering clarity that comes not from seeking approval but from standing fully in truth. Here, we see life from the artist’s vantage point: eyes lifted, feet planted, heart open- Above Ground.
